Mission 1402
Mission 1402: Metamorphosis The exciting 14th annual CASA mission, Metamorphosis, included the loss of five lives and a leg. The FBI stormed CASA: once in mission control and once in the Public Affairs Office in the middle of a telecast. A C4 bomb hidden in the zeolite beads on the station also adds to the memory of Mission 1402 as being a stressful, confusing, but fun experience. Four of the five lives were lost due to dangerously high levels of carbon dioxide caused by a leak from a robot in the science section of the Biocube; a hose slipped off its connection and leaked carbon dioxide for almost three hours. This leak was not detected due to a malfunction in the CO2 gauge. When some astronauts started complaining of nausea and headaches and then fainted, the carbon dioxide was checked, but the levels read were not accurate and unfortunately four astronauts died. Along with radiation and 02 alarm malfunctions, solar flares and water contamination caused several astronauts to become sick. A hull breach occurred during a meteor shower when a meteor penetrated the station creating a strong vacuum. The hole in the station melted closed to the relief of the astronauts. Unfortunately, Station Commander Donny Tennyson, lost his leg due to the pull from the breach. The lost leg was the beginning of the problems the station would face. The blood lost by Tennyson soon contaminated the entire station, but because of extensive training, the highly intelligent astronauts, with the help of mission control, took the proper procedures and took care of the contamination quickly. Commander Tennyson was then shuttled down on the next orbiter and was treated at the hospital. The FBI stormed Mission Control and the Public Affairs Office (PAO). The buildings were evacuated for a period of time, all windows were covered and all doors were locked. When the cause of the evacuation was denied to the mission commander and the head of PAO due to confidentiality, many questions were raised, but none were answered. When the technical specialists, medical officers, etc. were allowed back into Mission Control, all terminals were scrambled, and I-Comm (Internet communications) was out. The only way to contact the station was through Y-talk over a computer. This caused problems when two satellites had to be decoded and encoded in 30 minutes. Thankfully the two satellites were saved, I-Comm was functional and all terminals were back to normal quickly. This mission ended when a server malfunction, which could not be fixed in the allotted time, turned the status of x-code 09, y-code 09 to one. 0909 is the station's self-destruct code and a status of one means "activation." The station was evacuated in a final space flight after one last attempt to save the station. The results of this attempt are unknown. Hopefully in the next mission we will be able to save the station. |
